Katie Culp is a piano, guitar, and ukulele Instructor at Musicville. Katie is from a small town outside of Portland, Oregon and was raised in a musical household. She has been playing piano since she was six years old. She picked up guitar, ukulele, and the alto sax when she was in middle school. In high school, Katie was a member of two jazz bands as the lead pianist, the piano accompanist for concert choir and jazz choir, and an alto saxophonist in marching band. Katie has also undergone ten years of classical piano training –completing her level ten classical piano evaluation with distinction.
In addition to playing instruments, Katie also loves to write songs and compose! Katie moved to Nashville in 2019 to pursue a degree in Songwriting at Belmont University. After December 2023, Katie will be graduated from Belmont with a double major in Songwriting and Music Business and an emphasis in Music Production.
Katie has been a storyteller her whole life. It all began with writing short stories and plays for her stuffed animals to act out. Now, she’s composed for jazz bands, written and performed her original songs, and is currently working to strengthen her skills in music production. Katie encourages storytelling and creativity in her music lessons. “I believe learning an instrument should be more than learning the technique,” (Even though that is very important!) “Music should be engaging and exciting, and I aim to provide a space for my students to be creative and to pursue the kind of music they’re excited to play.”
