MEET MONICA MCKENZIE

“The reason I teach is because I believe music should feel accessible, joyful, and empowering. I value the connection that music creates— in lessons, on stage, and in communities. I love guiding students through the small steps that lead to real progress and watching their confidence grow over time."

Monica is a violin and viola instructor who is passionate about helping beginners build strong musical foundations in a supportive, encouraging environment. She began studying violin at age six as a Suzuki student and added viola at age eleven. Years of private lessons and ensemble experience shaped her love of collaborative music-making and continue to influence her teaching today.

As an active musician, Monica performs with a local community orchestra and is committed to continually growing in her own musicianship. Her Suzuki background plays a strong role in her teaching style, with an emphasis on careful listening, solid technique, and steady, step-by-step progress. She creates engaging lessons tailored to each student’s unique learning style, helping them feel both challenged and supported.

Monica holds a B.A. in Education with an emphasis in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology from Southern Adventist University, as well as an M.S. in Psychology with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis from Capella University. Her background in education and behavior analysis uniquely equips her to understand how students learn best, break skills into manageable steps, and foster steady, confidence-building progress.

Monica values patience and encouragement, guiding students as they build confidence and develop a lifelong love of music. She believes music should feel accessible, joyful, and empowering. Her favorite part of teaching is walking alongside students through the small wins that lead to meaningful growth—both musically and personally.
